Wheels and tires are P215/50VR17 on 17-inch aluminum rims.
The Grand Touring sedan adds leather upholstery, heated power driver's seat, the Bose stereo, heated mirrors, power glass sunroof, and red-illuminated electroluminescent gauges.
Direct gasoline injection and turbocharging combine to produce 274 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque from the Mazdaspeed6's 2.3-liter four-cylinder. A six-speed manual gearbox is installed. An Active Torque Split all-wheel-drive system adjusts front/rear torque distribution between 100/0 and 50/50 based on real-time steering angle, yaw rate, lateral G-force and engine status data. The all-wheel-drive system can choose between Normal, Sports and Snow modes. The RX-8's torque-sensing limited-slip differential is used in the Mazdaspeed6.
The four-cylinder Mazdaspeed6 is plain and simple fun to drive. The 2.3-liter, double-overhead-cam engine gives it excellent rev and acceleration. Below 3000 rpm, however, the four-cylinder lacks strong throttle response. The Mazdaspeed's six-speed manual shifts smoothly. This Mazda doesn't lean much in corners, and body roll is nicely controlled by the front and rear anti-roll bars. It comes standard with a sports suspension with double wishbones up front and a lateral-link layout in the rear and coil springs all around. With the Mazdaspeed6's turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive, it is versatile enough to cruise through back roads, but also to drive as a daily driver. It boasts style, agility and performance. In short, it's more fun to drive than other cars in this class. It's a great choice for someone who wants a more exciting car.
Like the Mazda6, up to five occupants can fit inside the Mazdaspeed6. The cabin is comfortable and pleasant. Both Mazdaspeed6 models feature stainless-steel scuff plates, sport-type front seats, alloy pedals and a Bose audio system with an in-dash six-CD changer. Grand Touring sedans add black leather-trimmed seat upholstery, an eight-way power driver's seat, heated mirrors and front seats, and keyless entry. The trunk of the sedan measures 15.2 cubic feet, and the compact, lateral-link rear suspension allows for a perfectly flat trunk floor. The trunk lid is designed with hinges that do not impinge on the storage space. Release levers are in the trunk for security. The Mazdaspeed6 sacrifices fold-down rear seats for increased body rigidity. The MazdaSpeed6 features bucket seats up front, scuff plates with stainless-steel inserts, and aluminum pedals. Both the leather and cloth seats are supportive. A limited-edition model is available with black and white leather with beautiful black cherry exterior paint. The available Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System allows owners to open locked doors and activate the ignition just by having the electronic key with them.
The 2007 MazdaSpeed6 is distinguished by its slightly lowered stance and by its exclusive front fenders, hood, and grille, among other body panels. An aerodynamic front bumper and lower grille section suggest high performance, while flared side skirts showcase the 18-inch aluminum wheels. A rear bumper with built-in diffuser for the integrated exhaust pipe combines with a compact, functional rear lip spoiler to finish off the exterior package. The upper grille serves as the engine's air intake, directing cooled air through a duct to the turbocharger's intercooler. Mazda says the Mazdaspeed6's torsional rigidity is 50 percent greater than that of a regular Mazda6 sedan. The Mazdaspeed6's front spring rate is 25 percent higher than usual, and its stabilizer bars are thicker. The rear cross-member has been reinforced. The sedan's dimensions are similar to the standard Mazda6 sedan. A power sunroof is optional on the Grand Touring sedan.
Safety
Dynamic Stability Control, antilock brakes, side-impact airbags and side curtain airbags are standard. The 2007 Mazdaspeed6 also includes traction control, and advanced dual-stage front airbags.
The 2007 Mazdaspeed6, new in 2006, is a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive sedan designed by Mazda's special performance division. The Mazdaspeed6 offers amazing value, with high levels of performance and handling, but also a comfortable cabin for the daily commute. All-wheel drive eases the thrust of the 274-horsepower turbocharged engine, and the Mazdaspeed6's close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox is remarkable for its easy, smooth-shifting action. It comes with sporty fabric or leather upholstery and other luxury features. Its closest competitors are the Audi A4 quattro or BMW 330xi, although they are in a different price range. The Mazdaspeed's suspension is firm but reasonable; it has an estimated fuel economy of 25 mpg Hwy, and 19 mpg City. For more specifications, read a Motor Trend Mazdaspeed6 review.
